Our Story

Born from loss.
Built on love.

How one family's darkest moment became a movement to bring light to others.

The Beginning

A loss that changed everything.

On May 13, 2025, founder Rosland Anderson and her family lost her husband and the father of her children to suicide. His death forever changed their family — but it also sparked a mission that would reach far beyond their home.

In the immediate aftermath of that loss, Rosland found herself asking the questions that so many grieving families ask: What did we miss? What could we have done? Who could we have called? Where were the resources? Why didn't we know?

Those questions didn't paralyze her — they propelled her. Because Rosland understood that somewhere, right now, another family was asking the same questions. And she refused to let them face that darkness without someone showing up with a light.

"What began with one family's pain is becoming a movement centered on one simple belief: sometimes saving a life begins with showing up."

— Rosland Anderson, Founder

Our Mission

To bring light into moments of darkness by advancing mental wellness, suicide prevention, education, early intervention, community connection, and access to supportive resources.

Our Vision

A community where no person feels they must struggle alone — where families, friends, professionals, and community members have the knowledge, resources, and courage to recognize distress, respond with compassion, and connect people to help.

What Guides Us

Our core commitments.

01

Educate

We believe knowledge saves lives. We work to build mental health literacy in every community we touch — reducing stigma, increasing awareness, and equipping people with the language to recognize and respond to crisis.

02

Connect

Isolation is one of the greatest risk factors for suicide. We create spaces — physical and digital — where people can find each other, find support, and find hope.

03

Support

We walk alongside individuals and families navigating mental health challenges, connecting them to resources, services, and community that can help them find a path forward.

04

Advocate

We use our voice to push for systemic change — for better access to mental health care, for culturally responsive services, and for communities that prioritize wellbeing.

05

Prevent

Prevention is at the heart of everything we do. Through early intervention, education, and community connection, we work to reach people before crisis becomes catastrophe.

06

Bring Hope

Hope is not passive. It is something we actively carry into every room, every conversation, every program. We believe hope is contagious — and we intend to spread it.

Black Lyte'N — the superhero who shows up
Meet Black Lyte'N

The superhero who shows up.

Black Lyte'N is not defined by physical strength. His greatest superpower is the ability to bring light, connection, compassion, resources, and hope into moments of darkness.

He was born from the belief that every person who chooses to show up — for a friend, a family member, a stranger — in the moments when it matters most, is a hero. You don't need a cape. You need courage, compassion, and the willingness to say: I see you. I'm here.

Black Lyte'N represents all of us at our best. He is the embodiment of what this initiative believes: that one person, showing up with care, can change everything.

"When darkness shows up, we bring the Lyte."

The Founder

Rosland Anderson

Rosland Anderson is a mother, a survivor, and a community builder. After losing her husband to suicide on May 13, 2025, she channeled her grief into action — founding Black Lyte'N Initiative as a living commitment to reach people before another family experiences the devastation of losing someone they love.

Rosland believes that the most powerful thing any of us can do is show up — with honesty, with compassion, and with a willingness to have the hard conversations. She has made that her life's work.

"I didn't start this organization because I had all the answers. I started it because I knew what it felt like to need someone to show up — and I decided to be that person for others."

— Rosland Anderson
